Jose Mourinho fired by Manchester United

LONDON: Manchester United has sacked its manager Jose Mourinho after being with the club for two and a half years.

The decision of the club comes after Sunday’s defeat at Anfield where Manchester United lost to Liverpool 3 – 1.

In a statement, the club said: “Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.”

Mourinho spent around £400m on 11 players of his choice.

It has been one of the worst seasons for Manchester United since 1990-91.

“A caretaker-manager will be appointed until the end of the season while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager,” United said.

Mourinho will get around £15m in compensation.
